Textile Conservation
Objects are condition assessed, either in our studio or on site, and an estimate with various treatment options is provided. Treatments are undertaken within our environmentally controlled studios, charged at an hourly rate. Where needed initial assessments and any subsequent treatment can be carried out on site, charged at a daily rate.Consultations can be given by email or over the phone at no cost. Collections Care & Management
We offer a tailored collections care and management service for both individual items and entire collections. Our services include storage evaluation, housekeeping (including the care of state beds), display and loan reports, and reassessing the conservation needs of a collection. We can provide staff training, and also aid with funding applications. Our team are able to offer practical and creative solutions to meet any budget demand.
Preventive Conservation is key to collections care and management. We provide a preventive conservation service, which includes monitoring and mitigating environmental factors as well as integrated pest management. These services can help to delay or prevent the need for interventive treatment.
Our team has extensive experience in IPM and can provide consultation and treatment plans for the eradication and prevention of pests. We can provide chemical and biological treatment solutions that work alongside your collection. Freezing treatments can be arranged with a trusted supplier.
Display & Storage
We offer bespoke mounting solutions for textiles and costumes, as well as advice on display conditions. Having the correct display or storage solution is crucial to preserving an object, and we are able to provide an aesthetic solutions that ensures the correct historic interpretation.
Our studio offers museum standard framing, which includes UV protected glass and inert materials upon request.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Our team has extensive experience in IPM and can provide consultation and treatment plans for the eradication and prevention of pests. We can provide chemical and biological treatment solutions that work alongside your collection. Freezing treatments can be arranged with a trusted supplier.
Public Engagement
We are available to speak at conferences and events, and provide one-off talks and lectures on textile conservation and the studio’s work to both amateur and professional interested groups. We also offer conservation tours of Burghley House and it’s wonderful textile collection.
Our team present papers on conservation and textiles at conferences and events, and publish in academic journals.
Education & Training
We offer students, graduates, and emerging professionals work placements and internships, allowing them to develop their knowledge and practice of textile conservation within private practice.
The studio also provides taster days and work experience to those who are interested in joining the heritage profession whether as a mid-career change, to Year 10 school pupils, or to those who are passionate about textiles.
Disaster Response
Disasters can be overwhelming and devastating, but we are on hand to provide emergency help in all events. Disasters of all scales are damaging, but with the right care and knowledge quickly implemented, damage can be reduced. We provide detailed condition assessments and treatment proposals for the conservation of damaged objects to help with insurance claims.
